Miguel Ingoglia is a painter born in Argentina who relocated to New York City in 1974. As a young man in the 1960's, Mr. Ingoglia studied sculpture, mural painting and printmaking as separate disciplines, but since reaching maturity he appears to have blended them into one. Mr. Ingoglia makes Baroque architecture his principal subject, generally defining its lineaments with a firm line and building up its masses in smudges of gray, blue, pink and other muted hues. The results, though they are visions lying somewhere between trompe l'oeil realism and fantasy, convince the viewer that the artist takes his cue from Baroque in its original form. In fact, he is more often than not inspired by neo-Baroque in his own neighborhood, which is Lower Manhattan...Mr. Ingoglia has stated that he regards architecture as archeological evidence, but it is possible that as a painter-in-exile who also works as a restorer he would, if he could, restore to Baroque some of the power it wielded during the Age of Imperialism...
