Condition:

The canvas appears to be thinly lined with an old lining and is stable on its stretcher. The painting reads clearly beneath the varnish, though it is loosely rendered and may be slightly dirty in some areas. There are some darkened shadows and details that have lost some definition, for example in the standing figure at left and in the background, and there are a few very small spots of loss, such as in the arm of standing figure at center. There has been a more recent campaign of restoration, much of which is visible to the naked eye. For example, there is some loosely applied restoration in the lower left quadrant, such as around the dog, in the shadows in and around the seated figure of Paris at left, in the fabric of standing figure at right, and an area in the center of the upper sky, possibly to address old losses or repairs. There are some more finely applied strokes of cosmetic retouches in the figures and scattered spots in the background and sky. UV light further reveals these aforementioned retouches.
