or LOG IN

Markings:

The canvas is unlined and is stable on its stretcher though it is no longer taut. Stretcher bar marks are visible around the top and sides of the composition, and a canvas fold is visible through the center, but these are not distracting. The texture of the paint surface is uneven, which is to be expected in the case of old restoration without relining. Under UV inspection, retouching is visible throughout, concentrated in the black background of the upper half, and in shadowy areas of garments, as well as some less involved retouching on the details of the woman's dress and the figure's faces. Overall, given its size, age and the fact that it remains unlined, the canvas is in relatively good condition and can hang in its present state. Offered in a simply carved giltwood frame.
