Markings:
signed Gustave Moreau (lower left)
Condition:
The work is in good condition. It seems to be laid down to its mount. The drawing does not show any appearing folding or tear. A few small traces of scratches, some probably by the hand of the artist himself (especially in the clouds), appear throughout the sheet. A light vertical scratch, about one centimeter, is visible in the lower part of the face of the woman. The watercolor remains particularly fresh and the colors do not seem to have lost their freshness and vibrancy. In the lower area, the black ink is slightly matte. The artist left a margin showing the actual paper on circa 1cm on each side and on circa 0,5cm on both the upper and the lower edges. 2 small folding are visible in the margins lower left. Some light traces of dirt appear on the edges, especially on the right area. Offered in a modern mount and framed under glass with a thin gilt baguette. Please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee the condition of the frame.
