Condition report by Jane McAusland JEAN-ETIENNE LIOTARD A Woman in Turkish costume in a Haman instructing a servant Pastel 710 by 530 mm Support This Liotard pastel is on paper supported by canvas on a stretcher. There is a slight horizontal crease running across the centre. I do not think this is the join in the paper, however it could be two papers butted up together to give the same very slightly uneven line across the paper. There are some scattered heightened paper flaws, which stand up above the surface of the sheet. The most obvious one being between the bath and the skirt of the servant. The support appears to be in a very good condition. Medium The pastel medium is in a very good condition showing no fading or surface abrasion. There is slight rubbing at the foot with a little surface loss to the pastel in places where an old mount has burnished the surface. Note: This work was viewed outside studio conditions.
