Markings:

The panel has two horizontal battens affixed to the reverse, is very slightly bowed, and appears to be make up of two vertical planks. The paint surface is only very slightly dirty with a clear and even varnish. The network of craquelure has become slightly more distinct in areas. There are spots of discoloured retouching visible scattered throughout, as well as retouching to a network of surface cracks lower right (the longest one approx. 6cm.). Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms this, and further reveals some areas of more concentrated retouching: in the dark folds of the Madonna's drapery; in her neck, a spot below her nose and a spot in her proper left cheekbone; along the upper margin and in Saint John the Baptist's hair and belt. The painting presents well as is and is in overall fairly good condition.
