( American, 1894 - 1978 )
Scene from The most beloved American writer
Materials:
charcoal and black crayon
Size Notes:
sight; sheet 20.88 x 17.63 in
Markings:
Signed 'Norman Rockwell' bottom left
Condition:
The drawing itself appears to be in generally fine overall condition. The sheet appears likely to be toned overall. Framed, matted, with one piece brown paper tape along top edge of sheet on verso, affixed to mat. Parts of bottom outer edge of sheet are slightly unevenly trimmed (this unevenness is hidden by the overmat). The verso of the sheet has some surface discoloration, smudges and clusters of tiny brown specks which are generally in the approximate upper third of the sheet, verso. There is a slight, unobtrusive surface split to part of outer lower right edge (approx. 1/8 inch long, and hidden by the overmat) Some scattered tack holes at/near parts of left and right edges of sheet; some handling creases. The image, as seen in the catalogue illustration, is bordered (as designed by Rockwell), and the edges of the sheet outside the bordered area display some mount staining. Also in the outer 'border' (again, hidden by overmat) are two areas – one larger than the other – in part of right margin, with specks of foreign surface discoloration (origins unknown, appear to likely be removable)
