Markings:
The canvas is lined and stable on its stretcher. The edge of the paint surface ends about one centimeter from either edge of the frame, and there are 3-4 small holes drilled through the canvas and stretcher on the relining edge on the top, center, and bottom of both left and right edges. A few repaired scratches and tears are visible to the naked eye, such as at center right and a large repaired tear at upper right. A vertical seam is visible about 8 inches from the left edge but not distracting. The image reads well under the varnish though some areas have flattened due to relining. Under UV inspection, retouching along the the aforementioned tears and seam is visible, though this is also visible to the naked eye, along with scattered retouching in background areas. Overall, considering its large size, the painting is in relatively sound condition and can hang in its present state. Offered in a decoratively carved giltwood frame.
