From1Secret Gallery, Paris, Paying tribute to the Adidas Americana sneaker which first came to prominence in the 70s as the shoe of choice for the NBA, French artist YAZ continues his infamous series of bronze sneakers - albeit in this instance with the sneaker modified for the roller rink with Kryptonics wheels., As the artist states, "being a kid in the Parisian suburbs in the 80s was a bit frustrating, my friends and I were living on New York's heartbeat for music, fashion and graffiti. And if I remember holding my breath during the entire operation of piercing my beloved pair of Americana, I would never regret taking that risk. Because when I took those for a ride, the intense joy could transport me anywhere. Skitching behind my hometown bus almost felt like I could pass by the Empire Disco roller rink in Brooklyn. I tried to carve that powerful feeling of freedom into this sculpture and I really enjoyed crafting this street culture icon. This is also why I absolutely wanted it to roll and not just stand, which complicated the project in unpredictable ways..."
